I, too, read Little Bee in 2 days. It took my breath away. I still feel it’s effects days later. I had to write to say “thank you”. And tho I am sure you hear this all too frequently, ” you are brilliant!” When will you be in America? Come to Florida!!

Hello Chris. I had got a ticket to come and see you in Sheffield, unfortunately in my excitement at seeing you were coming to my local library, I had forgotten that I will be away that week so not able to make it. Very disappointed as I was looking forward to hearing you talk. I was an avid fan of your Guardian column for ages, but found it especially poignant in April 2009 when my first child was born. I think you wrote about the birth of your third child around this time, and one particular article about babies being made from stardust brought tears to my eyes (I am probably mis-quoting you terribly there, as my memory of the time is rather hazy, but the important thing is that I remember enjoying your articles very much). My husband bought me “The Other Hand” for Christmas, and I thoroughly enjoyed that also. I learnt recently of our closely crossed paths, as in the latest edition of Floreat Domus I was surprised to read that you studied EP at Balliol – as did I (matriculation in 1995)! Anyway, to make up for my disappointment at not being able to come and see you in person I have left a message here. I hope you enjoy Sheffield – I’m sure there’ll be an interesting and interested crowd. Thanks for your work!

A wonderful evening of thought-provoking, amusing and entertaining talk in Newcastle. I have never been to anything like this and was pleasantly suprised that it was not too “posh” (does that make me common?). Thanks for signing my book at the end. My first face to face encounter with an author and you didn’t disappear like some mythical creature but were there in flesh and blood. Amazing!!
